Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by just one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to avoid just a slight brush of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner approaching the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
