The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Knows How Pluribus Will End... Currently.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would become a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the popular program wrapping up—and Season 2 already in development—the writers' room reflected on the fan response and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Fan Response

Anyone might to get distracted by the constant speculation and online debates about Pluribus. He is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it from others, and that's on purpose. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Has Vince Gilligan Know the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering the writers aren’t being guided by audience theories, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… sort of.

“We've developed some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to discard a decent plan for a superior concept. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, one could always use the classics?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
