The Hit Drama Announced for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th installment, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode series written by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The last season wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but official word only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to combat misconduct within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.
However, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.
Broadcasters has not yet announced when the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers said at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on this week that a new season is now being produced.
