The sports network Cuts Ties with Analyst Sanchez, Replaces Him with Former QB Brees
The network has terminated its association with sports commentator Mark Sanchez as he faces criminal charges, multiple outlets reported on Friday.
"It is confirmed that Mark Sanchez has ceased with the network," a network representative commented. "There will be no further comment currently."
Assuming the commentary position will be another former professional quarterback, Drew Brees, as per the information. He will likely to partner with play-by-play voice Adam Amin and has a contract to provide commentary until at least 2026.
Background on the Incident Involving Sanchez
The 38-year-old Sanchez had been sidelined since he was stabbed and later taken into custody following a fight in an Indianapolis alley with a 69-year-old truck driver. He had traveled to commentate on the 5 October game between the Colts and Las Vegas Raiders but was hospitalized and substituted that week by Brady Quinn.
He is charged with a felony battery charge as well as multiple lesser charges. This serious charge could result in of 1-6 years in prison, upon a guilty verdict, and he has pleaded not guilty in the Indiana court.
Brees' Professional Background
Brees, 46 left the NFL after the 2020 season and worked during 2021 with NBC Sports, acting as a color analyst for the network’s Notre Dame broadcasts and appearing on Football Night in America.
Brees has worked in the studio with Fox and ESPN and served as an analyst for a Netflix sports event during the holidays.
Brees led the Saints team to a Super Bowl victory in the 2009 NFL season and was a two-time awardee NFL offensive standout. He is second behind the legendary Brady in NFL history in passing yards (80,358) and touchdown passes (571).
