Triple Most Valuable Player Jokic suffers a 'gut-wrenching' knee injury.
Three-time NBA Most Valuable Player Jokic sustained a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee while the Denver Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 at the Miami Heat.
Jokic injured himself towards the end of the second quarter in an inadvertent coming together with teammate Jones.
The other player stepped on the footwear of Jokic, who immediately went down to the ground clutching his leg.
The 30-year-old, who is leading the NBA season in rebounds and assists, had 21 points and eight assists in the contest before sustaining the injury.
He is scheduled for an MRI on the following day to assess the seriousness of the issue.
"Immediately, Jokic knew there was a problem," said Denver head coach Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Whoever who gets hurt, it's difficult, especially somebody as special as him. We will know more on Tuesday."
"We'll move on as a team. Clearly, at this moment, I am more concerned about him as a person and the disappointment of going through something of that nature."
